RMWB Council announces Chief Administrative Officer
(Fort McMurray, AB – October 5, 2023) – RMWB Council is pleased to share Henry Hunter has been named the Municipality’s new Chief Administrative Officer (CAO). He is set to begin as CAO on October 16, 2023, pending Council’s formal appointment at the Tuesday, October 10, 2023 Council meeting.
Mr. Hunter joins the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo as an accomplished executive leader with over 30 years of experience in the public and private sector.
“Our priority is to put the people of this region first, while working collaboratively to help build relationships and communities,” said Mayor Sandy Bowman. “Collectively, and following a competitive recruitment process, we, as a Council, are confident Henry can guide the organization in supporting these goals. As someone who has lived here for many years, Henry understands the challenges and opportunities in the region. His experience in high profile positions across a variety of sectors and knowledge of the community will be very valuable at this important time.”
“I look forward to taking on this new role with the municipality, and I’d like to thank Council for their confidence in my ability to lead the organization. I'd also like to thank my Wood Buffalo Housing Board and senior management in supporting me through this transition,” said Mr. Hunter. “This region has been my home for over a decade, and I have a vested interest in helping to realize its full potential. We have a lot of work ahead, and I’m excited to get started.”
Having called Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo home since 2012, Mr. Hunter joins the RMWB from Wood Buffalo Housing, where he has been the President and Chief Executive Officer for nearly seven years. Prior to that, he served as Keyano College’s Vice President of Capital Projects and Facilities Operations, and the Executive Director of Public Infrastructure and Planning at the RMWB. An Engineer, Mr. Hunter has expertise in strategic planning and implementation, public infrastructure, business development and operations management, along with an aptitude for team building and mentoring staff.
Added Mayor Bowman: “I also want to extend my sincerest thanks to Regional Fire Chief Jody Butz, who has supported during this time of transition as Interim Chief Administrative Officer. Jody has ensured that work has continued to move forward. We are grateful for his continued service as Regional Fire Chief and Director of Emergency Management.”
