Spring load limits in effect for gravel roads April 15

UPDATE: Starting May 31, the road bans for rural roads will be lifted.

Motorists are reminded to drive to conditions and follow all posted signage

Beginning April 15, the load limits on municipal gravel roads are being lowered to 75 per cent of the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW).

Gravel roads with load limits

The load limit applies to the following roads:

  • West Road, Conklin
  • Stoney Mountain Crossover, Cheecham Hills
  • Tower Road, Fort McMurray
  • Aostra Road, West of Suncor off Hwy 63

Load limits will remain in place until gravel roads are fully thawed and dried.

Follow all posted signage

In addition to load limits, there may be other safety measures in place on gravel roads, such as reduced axel weights, due to seasonal conditions.

For everyone’s safety and to preserve the lifespan of gravel roads, motorists are reminded to follow all posted signage and drive to conditions.

Gross Vehicle Weight

Gross vehicle weight (GVW) refers to the licensed maximum weight of the vehicle as per the vehicle’s certificate of registration. GVW includes the weight of trailers and cargo.
