Street sweeping begins April 22
Spring is on the way and crews are getting ready to begin cleaning and sweeping streets. Beginning April 22, temporary parking restrictions will be in effect where work is happening.
Street sweeping will continue daily until all roads are completed. This will help reduce debris on the streets and keeps neighbourhoods safe and clean for everyone.
Watch-out for no parking signs
Temporary no-parking signs will be placed 24 hours in advance where street sweeping is occurring. After 24 hours, parking restrictions will be in effect until the signs are removed. Make sure to move your vehicle off the road to avoid getting ticketed or towed and to ensure your entire street can be cleaned.
Please watch the electronic road signs for street sweeping updates. These signs are at the entrance of each neighbourhood.
Street sweeping schedule
On April 22, on-street parking restrictions for street sweeping will begin on primary, secondary, and tertiary routes, which are the busier streets in Fort McMurray. Street sweeping will be done by neighbourhood, in the following order:
- Downtown
- Waterways
- Abasand/Grayling Terrace
- Prairie Creek
- Beacon Hill
- Thickwood
- Wood Buffalo
- Dickinsfield
- Timberlea
Street sweeping on residential streets will follow the same order as above. Residential street sweeping is expected to be completed by mid-late June. Timelines are subject to change due to weather, on-street parking compliance and other unforeseen circumstances.
Rural street sweeping
Street sweeping in rural communities is expected to begin by mid-May, after the completion of the primary, secondary and tertiary routes and depending on weather and other circumstances. There are no parking restrictions in place, so rural residents will not need to adjust parking practices for street sweeping.
For everyone’s safety, please follow all posted signage, do not approach operators and keep a safe distance from equipment as dust may reduce visibility.
