Timberlea townhouse unit significantly damaged in early New Year fire

Shortly after midnight, Jan. 1, Regional Emergency Services (RES) firefighters responded to several 911 calls and arrived on scene to a fully involved garage fire in a two-storey townhouse unit on O’Coffey Crescent.

Firefighters initially entered the burning structure but moved to a defensive attack to protect fire crews and keep the fire from spreading to an adjacent unit. Just before 3 a.m., the fire was declared under control.

Four pumpers and crews, an aerial ladder truck team, fire investigators and other emergency personnel responded to the fire.

Firefighters remained on the scene until after 3:30 a.m.

No injuries were reported, but the townhouse unit where the fire began is considered a complete loss. Firefighters rescued two cats from an adjacent unit.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
