Winter maintenance season begins with all subzones relaxed
Plan ahead: sign up for WMZ alerts and keep up with on-street parking restrictions
The Winter Maintenance Zone (WMZ) program officially begins today with all winter maintenance subzones relaxed until further notice. When subzones are relaxed, on-street parking restrictions are not in effect. Residents are encouraged to sign up for WMZ alerts delivered straight to their inbox.
How WMZs work
- Subzones are typically activated on a bi-weekly basis, which means residents need to move their vehicles off the street once every two weeks on their designated day.
- Windrows (snowbanks) created by a plow that are higher than 15 cm will be removed from the end of driveways in active subzones.
Keep up to date on the status of WMZs
- Sign up for WMZ Alerts.
- Watch for updates on the orange electronic signage at the entrance of each neighbourhood.
- Follow the RMWB on Facebook and X @RMWoodBuffalo.
- Check rmwb.ca.
- Contact Pulse at 780-743-7000 or rmwb.ca/pulse.
Remove all belongings from the curb
Help prevent delays and damage by removing personal items, such as basketball and hockey nets and curb mats from the curb or overhanging the street.
Reminder for temporary no-parking signs
If you live on a busier street not included in the WMZ program, temporary no-parking signs may be placed ahead of snow removal. When these signs appear:
- Vehicles must be moved within 24 hours and remain off-street until the signs are removed.
- Crews have 72 hours to complete winter maintenance.
Any vehicles not moved will be subject to ticketing and towing.
Winter Maintenance Zone reminders
- Every residential street maintained by the RMWB in Fort McMurray has an assigned subzone and one designated weekday for maintenance. You can find this information on posted street signage or by using the Find Your Zone tool.
- Some homes are on Secondary or Tertiary streets and are not included in the WMZ program. Temporary no parking signs are placed on these streets when winter maintenance is planned.
- When your subzone is active, on-street parking restrictions are in effect 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on your designated day only.
- For everyone’s safety, please do not approach equipment and give space to crews where maintenance is happening.
