Winter Maintenance Subzones 1 and 2 active Jan. 12-16 for snow removal
Watch for temporary no parking signs. Snow removal will continue in Subzone 4 through the weekend (Jan. 10-11)
Subzones 1 and 2 will be active from Jan.12-16 for snow removal operations with on-street parking restrictions in effect 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Subzones 3 and 4 are expected to be activated Jan.19-23.
Subzone 4 will stay active throughout the weekend
Crews will continue snow removal in Subzone 4 on Jan. 10 and 11. Please watch for temporary no parking signs that will be placed on the streets in Subzone 4 that are scheduled to receive maintenance over the weekend. If too many vehicles remain on the street, crews will move on to complete work on other streets.
Watch for temporary no parking signs
Temporary no parking signs are placed 24 hours in advance of planned maintenance on primary, secondary and tertiary streets not included in the WMZ program. Temporary no parking signs are also placed on streets included in the WMZ program when additional maintenance will be happening over the weekend. After 24 hours, on-street parking restrictions will be in effect and parked vehicles must be removed from the street until the signs are taken away.
On Jan.10 and 11, crews will also be removing snow from the busier streets not included in the WMZ program (Primary, Secondary and Tertiary streets). Crews will be focusing on streets in Abasand, Timberlea and Stone Creek this weekend.
Back-alley snow removal is underway
Crews are actively clearing snow from alleys, with first priority given to those that are used for garbage and recycling collection. Please ensure bins, vehicles, basketball nets and other personal belongings are stored on private property and do not block access to the back alley.
Why didn’t my street receive maintenance when my subzone was active?
Occasionally, your subzone will be activated, but winter maintenance may not happen on your street. This usually happens when crews are removing snow, as it takes considerably longer than just plowing snow. New snowfall, emergencies, or other unexpected delays may also result in challenges with scheduling.
This year, a higher number of vehicles have remained parked on streets in active subzones, causing delays and reducing the work crews can complete. When there are too many parked vehicles left on a street, maintenance crews will move on to a street with less. Following on-street parking restrictions and reminding your neighbours to do the same will help crews get work done faster and safely.
Winter maintenance is always scheduled based on the condition of the roads. This means if your street didn’t receive maintenance the last time your subzone was active, it will be tracked and scheduled for future maintenance.
Snow shoveling reminders
- Clear your driveway and the sidewalks next to your home within 48 hours of a snowfall.
- Help neighbours who may need assistance shoveling.
- Do not shovel snow back onto your street or around fire hydrants. Shovel snow onto your property (e.g., your yard or the green space between driveways).
