Winter Maintenance Subzones 3 and 4 active Feb. 16-20 for snow plowing
Watch for temporary no parking signs in subzones 1 and 2 next week as crews continue snow removal
Subzones 3 and 4 will be active from Feb. 16-20 for snow plowing, with on-street parking restrictions in effect 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Snow removal will also continue next week in Subzones 1 and 2 where temporary no parking signs are posted.
Vehicles left in active subzones or where temporary no parking signs are posted are subject to a $120 Notice of Violation plus towing fees.
Winter maintenance will continue in subzones 1 and 2 during the next scheduled activation, expected Feb. 23-27.
Watch for temporary no parking signs
Temporary no parking signs are placed 24 hours in advance of scheduled winter maintenance. After 24 hours, vehicles must be removed from the street until the signs are taken down.
Over the weekend (Feb. 14-15), crews will be removing snow from sections of the busier (primary, secondary and tertiary) streets in Abasand, Timberlea and Downtown. Watch for temporary no-parking signs in these areas.
Snow plowing vs. snow removal
Snow plowing differs from snow removal operations. Plowing pushes snow to the side or centre of the road to keep at least one traffic lane open and maintain space for street parking.
Snow removal, or snow hauling, involves loading snow into trucks and hauling it to a snow disposal site. A snow removal operation takes more time and resources than snow plowing and typically happens only once or twice per winter season.
