Winter Maintenance Update: Monday, Jan. 19
WMZ progress updates are being shared daily from Monday-Friday at rmwb.ca/wmz until all streets receive snow removal
Winter maintenance continues across Fort McMurray with crews making steady progress in neighbourhoods and on high-traffic routes.
Total snow removal progress
Crews are making good progress removing snow after completing additional maintenance over the weekend. This winter, snow removal has been completed on approximately:
- 69% of total WMZ streets complete
- 83% of Subzone 1 complete
- 91% of Subzone 2 complete
- 44% of Subzone 3 complete
- 51% of Subzone 4 complete
Crews regularly return to streets to clear intersections and maintain access. This work is not captured in the percentage of streets with snow removal complete. From Jan. 12 – 16, this work was included in the total percentages but has now been removed. The improved reporting may cause some minor discrepancies from the numbers first reported.
Watch for daily progress at rmwb.ca/wmz.

Progress on Winter Maintenance Zones
Subzones 3 and 4 are active this week. Having two subzones active each week gives crews flexibility to achieve the maximum amount of winter maintenance.
Today, crews completed snow removal on the following WMZ streets:

|
Crews may come back in the following days to do minor maintenance on these streets such as clearing more snow in cul de sacs.
Follow parking restrictions to speed up maintenance
Vehicles left on the street when parking restrictions are in effect continue to slow progress and limit how much work crews can complete each day. If access is blocked by parked vehicles, crews will skip the street and move on to areas where maintenance can continue.
Additional enforcement of parking restrictions is now in place. Vehicles left in active subzones are subject to a $120 Notice of Violation plus towing fees.
When subzones are active, all vehicles must be off the street from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Do not wait to move vehicles until equipment is nearby and do not park back on the street before 6 p.m., even if maintenance was completed because crews may come back.
