Winter Maintenance Update: Monday, Jan. 26
Watch for temporary no parking signs in subzones 3 & 4 this week as crews complete additional maintenance.
Crews are continuing snow removal operations and getting closer to completing all streets in Fort McMurray.
Follow parking restrictions to speed up winter maintenance. Subzones 1 and 2 are active this week and crews will also be doing additional maintenance on certain streets in subzones 3 and 4 that haven’t been completed yet.
Total snow removal progress
This winter, snow removal has been completed on approximately:
- 84% of total WMZ streets complete
- 88% of Subzone 1 complete
- 91% of Subzone 2 complete
- 76% of Subzone 3 complete
- 79% of Subzone 4 complete
Crews regularly return to streets to clear intersections and maintain access. This work is not captured in the percentage of streets with snow removal complete.

Snow removal completed over the weekend
Thank you to all residents that followed temporary no parking signs over the weekend. From Jan. 24-25, clear streets in Beacon Hill and a few other areas allowed crews to start work without delays and complete snow removal operations more efficiently. Crews are continuing work in Beacon Hill this week on Monday and Tuesday.
Additional maintenance was completed this weekend on the following streets:
- Archibald Cl.
- Archibald Bay
- Beaverglen Cl.
Snow removal was also completed over the weekend on these busier (primary, secondary and tertiary) streets:
- McLeod St.
- MacIver St.
- Manning Ave.
- Father Mercredi St.
- Fraser Ave.
- Gordon Ave.
- Main St.
- Hardin St.
- Morrison St.
- Richard St.
- MacDonald Ave.
While progress is steady, a mechanical breakdown temporarily impacted operations over the weekend when a curb mat was pulled into a snow blower. This highlights the importance of keeping curbs and streets clear to support safe and efficient winter maintenance.
Progress on Winter Maintenance Zones
Regular WMZ parking restrictions are in effect this week in subzones 1 and 2. Vehicles must be off the street from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the scheduled maintenance day. Vehicles need to be moved before crews arrive and can’t return to the street before 6 p.m., even if work appears complete, as crews may need to return.
Today crews completed snow removal on the following WMZ streets:

Crews may come back in the following days to do minor maintenance on these streets such as clearing more snow in cul de sacs.
Watch for temporary no parking signs
This week, temporary no parking signs will be posted in subzones 3 and 4, which are not currently active, as crews continue to complete snow removal on additional WMZ streets.
Temporary no parking signs are placed 24 hours in advance of maintenance. After 24 hours, on-street parking restrictions are in effect and vehicles must be removed from the street until the signs are taken away.
Parking restrictions are being more strictly enforced. Vehicles left in active subzones or where temporary no parking signs are placed are subject to a $120 Notice of Violation plus towing fees.
