Winter Maintenance Update: Thursday, Jan. 15

Daily winter maintenance updates will be shared until road conditions improve

All available crews and equipment are actively working to clear streets. Daily winter maintenance progress updates will be shared from Monday to Friday until road conditions improve. All updates are available at rmwb.ca/wmz.

Follow parking restrictions to speed up maintenance

Crews are making progress clearing streets, but there continues to be a very large number of vehicles left on the street when parking restrictions are in effect. This is causing unnecessary delays and reducing the work crews can complete each day. When there are too many parked vehicles left on a street, it may be skipped so crews can continue maintenance where access is available.

Additional enforcement of parking restrictions is now in place. Vehicles left in active subzones are subject to a $120 Notice of Violation plus towing fees.

When subzones are active, all vehicles must be off the street from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Do not wait to move vehicles until equipment is nearby, and do not park back on the street before 6 p.m., even if maintenance was completed, because crews may come back.

High-traffic streets receiving frequent maintenance

The high-traffic streets not included in the Winter Maintenance Zone (WMZ) program are prioritized, and maintenance is done more frequently. These streets have been plowed multiple times this week, and crews will be removing snow from them over the weekend. Snow removal has been completed on approximately 61 per cent of the streets not included in the WMZ program.

Progress on Winter Maintenance Zones

Subzones 1 and 2 are active this week, and crews have cleared and removed snow from 68 streets in these subzones so far. This winter, snow removal has been completed on 172 out of 219 streets in these subzones.

Today, crews conducted snow removal operations on the following streets:

  • Diefenbaker Dr.
  • Laurier Rd.
  • Laurier Lane
  • St. Laurent Way
  • Campbell Cres
  • McDougall Cres.
  • Shore St.
  • Breaker St.
  • Rattlepan Creek Cres.
  • Saline Creek Way
  • Sunday Creek Way
  • Fisher Cres.

Crews may come back in the following days to do minor maintenance on these streets, such as clearing more snow in cul de sacs.
