Wood Buffalo RCMP invites youth to ask a cop a question

Grades seven and eight students offered an opportunity to become a school influencer

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is partnering with Wood Buffalo RCMP for youth to experience a new engagement initiative, Ask a Cop a Question.

After a successful campaign in rural communities, Ask a Cop a Question is now expanding to include students in Fort McMurray, Fort McKay, and Fort Chipewyan.

“Conversations with community members are always an exciting opportunity for officers to discuss the important questions they ask,” says Mark Hancock, Officer in Charge of the Wood Buffalo Detachment. “We’re especially looking forward to connecting with students and their schools to continue building positive relationships between youth and officers.”

From April to June 2022, rural students asked peers and family to submit their questions for a chance to become a community influencer. Participating influencers in Anzac, Conklin, and Janvier represented their community by co-hosting panel discussions where officers answered questions submitted by school and community members.

Submit your question

Ask Wood Buffalo RCMP your questions and watch for recorded panel discussions co-hosted by grades seven and eight students where questions will be answered by local officers. Submit your questions by visiting rmwb.ca/participate.

Be a school influencer

Students in grades seven and eight are invited to become their school’s influencer. By encouraging friends, family, and neighbors to participate, the chosen influencer will co-host a live recorded panel discussion in their school with community policing officers followed by a pizza party with their classmates, hosted by Wood Buffalo RCMP.
