(Feb. 12, 2025) Fort McMurray, Alta. – Wood Buffalo RCMP continue to investigate the hit and run collision to two pedestrians that occurred in the Thickwood area on Feb. 10, 2025. Police have obtained surveillance photos of the suspect vehicle. (See image below)

Wood Buffalo RCMP seek public assistance with hit and run to pedestrians

(Feb. 11, 2025) Fort McMurray, Alta. – Wood Buffalo RCMP are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect in a hit a run. On Feb. 10, 2025, at approximately 6:35 p.m., Wood Buffalo RCMP and Regional Emergency Services responded to a collision with two pedestrians at the intersection of Thickwood Drive and Ross Haven Drive. At approximately 6:20 p.m., witnesses reported to Police that a pick up truck turned from Thickwood Drive onto Ross Haven Drive, accelerated and “drifted” or “fishtailed” and struck the pedestrians. The suspect vehicle stopped for a few moments before fleeing at a high rate of speed, last seen on Ross Haven Drive. Both pedestrians were taken to the Northern Lights Regional Health Center with undisclosed non-life threatening injuries.

The suspect vehicle is described as:

  • Black or dark coloured pick up truck
  • Half ton, possibly a GMC or Chevrolet
  • Unknown licence plate

Wood Buffalo RCMP are asking area residents to check their home surveillance system for any footage that may be related to the hit and run. Police are looking to speak to anyone else who may have witnessed this collision or who may have information regarding the suspect vehicle to contact the Wood Buffalo RCMP at (780) 788‐4040. RCMP encourage the public to report any criminal or suspicious activity to police. Reports tell us where to look, who to look for, and where to patrol in the future.
