Communities in Bloom

Learn how you can help beautify the region through community involvement and the challenge of competition.

Wood Buffalo Communities in Bloom is the local chapter of the national Communities in Bloom program. This non-profit organization’s mission is to inspire communities to enhance the quality of life and our environment through people and plants to create community pride.

Communities in Bloom initiatives include Seed of the Year, Community Gardening Day, volunteer appreciation events, & Nominate Your Neighbour (Summer & Winter). Our community regularly participates in national and international CiB challenges.

2026 Gardening Theme of the Year

We are pleased to announce that the 2026 Communities in Bloom theme is Therapeutic Gardening.

More than ever, we recognize the restorative power of green spaces—gardens that nurture the mind, body, and spirit.

Whether through community gardens, sensory landscapes, or the simple joy of tending plants, therapeutic gardening fosters connection, resilience, and well-being.

Nominate your Neighbour

The Nominate your Neighbour program is now open! Submissions close August 15, 2026.

See a beautiful yard? Community members are encouraged to nominate residents & businesses that contribute to beautifying our neighbourhoods during the summer months

Each nominee will receive a recognition package that includes a certificate and lawn sign, and lucky winners will receive a gardening kit.

Selected photos may also be featured on the RMWB’s social media channels.
