Community Rinks
The Community Backyard Rink program allows homeowners to build temporary backyard ice rinks, helping residents embrace winter in a safe, organized way.
The application process is simple and allows applicants to extend rinks into municipal greenspaces behind homes for use by the whole neighbourhood!
How do I get started?
A detailed guide has been created about how to apply for, construct and maintain a community backyard rink. The guide also provides details on responsibilities, timelines, and the approval process.
Apply for a community backyard rink
It’s important to ensure a safe, accessible, and usable ice surface. Applicants must maintain and clean the rink, keeping it safe and accessible.
Before filing out an application, identify a community rink lead who will be responsible for maintaining the rink and coordinating with volunteers.
Apply easily online through E-Permitting. If this is the first time you've used this portal, you'll be prompted to create a profile.
After applying
Once the RMWB has reviewed your application, Community Rink Leads will receive a notification of our decision. If approved, the RMWB will provide “Skate at your own Risk” signage, which must remain visible for the duration of the season.
Please note, any unauthorized structures are subject to fines and removal.
