Call for Artists to turn traffic boxes into works of art

Submit proposals online by Oct. 27; Artists will receive $700 if design is selected.  

(Fort McMurray, AB –August 23, 2023) – Help beautify streetscapes by turning traffic signal cabinets/bins from functional infrastructure into colourful and inspired works of art.

Public Art Wood Buffalo is seeking local artists, photographers, and designers from all backgrounds and experience to submit proposals for traffic signal cabinet/bin wraps. The new designs will replace some worn and damaged artwork and will also be added to the municipality’s design collection.  

A committee of residents, local artists and arts professionals will select up to 40 designs for installation. Artists will be awarded $700 if their submission is selected.

art Local artists, photographers/designers are asked to submit works that showcase:

  • natural landscapes and architecture
  • celebration of culture (such as cultural festivals, parades, events)
  • the seasons – spring, summer, autumn and winter
  • wildlife and habitats
  • historical artifacts and stories of the land
  • native flowers and trees to our region.
