Celebrate Call of the Wild, the Saprae Creek Estates Public Art Bench
Join us on Friday, March 31 at 6 p.m. at the Vista Ridge Park community hall as we celebrate the completion and formal presentation of Call of the Wild, the Saprae Creek Estates Public Art Bench.
Meet the artist behind the bench, Amy Keller-Rempp, and create your own masterpiece in an artist led workshop!
This family-friendly event will feature:
- a formal showcasing of the art bench to the community at the skate park
- a participatory art activity with Amy Keller-Rempp
- kid friendly activities, door prizes and surprises
- light refreshments

Honour & Remember
Public Art Wood Buffalo is proud to present Honour & Remember, a group exhibition curated by Jes Croucher, which tells the visual story of Indigenous Peoples who have been lost to the epidemic of Missing, Murdered, Exploited Indigenous Peoples (MMEIP) on Turtle Island (North America), specific to Canada and Wood Buffalo.
You are invited to view the exhibition in person at the lobby of Jubilee Centre (9909 Franklin Ave.) until May 31, 2023 during business hours.
Culture
Wood Buffalo Culture Plan
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo approved the Wood Buffalo Culture Plan in 2019 as a guiding document to support and enhance cultural initiatives in the region over the next 10 years. Since this time a community committee has been working together to further the priorities of the plan.
Cultural Infrastructure Needs Assessment
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo completed a Cultural Infrastructure Needs Assessment in 2022 to help ensure future investments in cultural infrastructure best meet the needs of communities in the region.
Heritage Resources Management Plan
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo approved the Heritage Resources Management Plan (HRMP) in 2023. The HRMP is a guiding document that will help Wood Buffalo showcase, safeguard and steward heritage resources in the region.
Heritage Plaques
The Municipal Heritage Plaque Program tells the stories of the significant people, places and events in the history of our community for the enjoyment and education of residents and visitors.
The Municipal Public Art Program
Public Art Wood Buffalo’s mandate is to strengthen community identity and sense of place through the creation and development of public art within the region. A framework for funding and administering the program was created with Public Art Policy (PRC-170). This policy also supported the initiation of the council appointed Public Art Committee who advise on the development and delivery of program elements. In May 2021, Council adopted the Wood Buffalo Public Art Plan which supports a strategic process of further developing public art within the region.

Public Art Wood Buffalo is inviting local Fort Chipewyan creatives to work with the community to inspire a design for a custom-made park bench. The goal is to have a bench design that is original, innovative and reflective of the entire community!

CALL FOR FORT CHIPEWYAN CREATIVES |
Do you paint, draw or craft? Do you have a love for your community and an interest in sharing it in a creative way? This project might be for you! Public Art Wood Buffalo is inviting local Fort Chipewyan creatives to work with the community to inspire a design for a custom-made park bench. The goal is to have a bench design that is original, innovative and reflective of the entire community! Once the design is complete, the creative can either fabricate the bench or the design can be sent out to be fabricated. A municipal representative will work with the artist every step of the way! The park bench design will be duplicated creating a “sister” bench. One (1) bench will remain in Fort Chipewyan at the Lakefront Viewing Deck located at Anderson Street and Lucas Avenue. The “sister” bench will be installed in a park in Fort McMurray. |
ARTIST FEE |
Public Art Wood Buffalo aligns with the Canadian Artists Representation (CARFAC) rates and will offer $600 for 4 hours of community consultation. Another $600 will be awarded to develop three designs for the community to select from.
A budget will be determined to fabricate the benches based on desired materials and capacity of the artist. |

Previous public art benches created under this program were designed by local artists Amy Keller-Rempp and Kritsana Naowakhun and are located at Kiyām Community Park, Anzac Community Park and Vista Ridge Park in Saprae Creek.

Public Art Collection
There are many individuals, organizations and institutions who have contributed to the cultural fabric of the region through the delivery of public art.
Public Art Wood Buffalo has produced a plethora of temporary projects including murals, events, and locally focused programming. The Wood Buffalo Public Art Plan further outlines a vision for strengthening the permanent collection.

The Public Art Program at the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is developing an artist roster. Please sign up to receive emails about opportunities such as calls to artists, and information sessions.
Selection Panel Participation Roster
The selection panel roster will serve as a resource to build a database that will support the creation of a public art selection panel on an as needed basis for each project. The Public Art Wood Buffalo program is seeking individuals who have interest in public art and who would like to support evaluation of project submissions. Submit an application to be considered to be a member of a public art selection panel.
