Help oversee RMWB finances and governance by joining the Audit and Compliance Committee
Qualified candidates are needed to fill two positions on the newly created Audit and Compliance Committee.
Council approved Bylaw No. 24/17 to create a Municipal Audit and Compliance Committee at the June 10 Council meeting.
Apply to join the committee by Sept. 7
The Audit and Compliance Committee will support Council with decision-making and oversight. Committee members will gain valuable experience in public sector finances and governance. Members of the public will be appointed to the committee for two-year terms.
Experience and knowledge in financial matters and public sector accounting is required. Applicants do not need to live in the region, though preference will be given to candidates who live in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB).
Applications must be submitted by Sept. 7 through the Boards and Committees Portal.
What is the role of the Audit and Compliance Committee?
The Audit and Compliance Committee will:
- Review and oversee the integrity of the RMWB annual financial statements and recommend their approval to Council.
- Review and assess the RMWB’s compliance with financial reporting policies and procedures with the Chief Financial Officer and the External Auditor.
- Develop a detailed annual work plan that is shared with Council.
- Review the audit plan and estimated audit fees with the External Auditor and discuss the timing and extent of audit procedures as well as risks, areas of focus and overall strategy.
- Review and ensure the authority, accountability, independence and objectivity of the Regional Auditor.
