La Loche Winter Trail load limit increasing to 27,500 kg at noon, Jan. 9
Drivers should plan ahead, drive to conditions and follow all posted signage
Starting today (Friday, Jan. 9) at noon, the vehicle load limit for the La Loche Winter Trail is increasing to 27,500 kg.
Vehicles heavier than 27,500 kg must stay off the winter trail until load limits are increased. Heavier vehicles could damage the road, causing serious safety hazards and delays in reaching higher load limits.
All updates and changes to the load limit for the La Loche Winter Trail will be formally announced. Drivers are reminded to obey all detour signs and not to enter closed-off routes.
Important reminders:
- All heavy vehicles, such as fuel trucks and semi-trailers, require a permit to use the winter road. Find more information on permits and other important details in the Heavy Vehicle Information Package. Haul Permits – Apply Online
- Stay on the right-hand side of the road, especially on hills
- Stop at river crossings – only one vehicle can cross at a time
- Be cautious, and always be aware of crews and equipment working on the road
- Review the Winter Road Safety Tips before travelling.
Speeding on the winter trail is very dangerous and destructive
Drivers are reminded to be cautious, as posted signage may not be in place for every hazard along the route, and to always be aware of crews and equipment working on the road. Speeding on the winter road is extremely dangerous, especially at river ice crossings.
