RMWB 2026 Mill and Pave – Fort McKay Access Road
Introduction
The Municipality will be completing asphalt surface upgrades to the Fort McKay Access Road as part of its ongoing roadway maintenance program. Over time, pavement naturally deteriorates due to aging, traffic loading, environmental exposure and repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
To restore pavement conditions, preserve the value of municipal infrastructure, and extend the service life of the roadway network, mill and pave construction activities will begin on September 8, 2026. Residents may experience temporary traffic disruptions and are encouraged to follow all posted signage and directions from construction personnel.

Project Details/Background:
Construction will take place along Fort McKay Road from the Highway 63 intersection to the south side of the Fort McKay Bridge.
Community Benefit:
The project will involve removing the top layer of worn asphalt and replacing it with new pavement to restore road quality and extend the life of the roadways.

Special Instructions for Residents:
· Signage will be staged for each phase of construction
· Emergency access will be maintained at all times in the event of an emergency.
· For your safety, and the safety construction crews, please keep away from heavy equipment, and obey all signage.
· There may be minor busing delays to the CNRL oils sands site while construction activities are ongoing.
