RMWB Council approves 2024 Budget

Following four days of deliberations, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) Council has approved a $611.6M Municipal Budget.

The budget is comprised of $ 474.0M for operations and $137.6M to be transferred to reserves for capital. The capital budget is $170.4M with funding from grants, capital reserves and 2024 revenues.

“This year’s budget represents Council’s continued commitment to investing in the people and communities of the Region, while remaining rooted in a sustainable future for the Municipality,” said Mayor Sandy Bowman. “Budget 2024 plays a positive role in supporting the local economy and the people that live here through important services, projects and partnerships at a time when we need to focus on what is best for the community.”

“Municipal staff have worked hard over the last several months to develop a financially prudent budget focusing on the delivery of high-quality public service to residents,” says CAO Henry Hunter. “I’d like to thank Council, municipal staff, and everyone who participated in the budget process, for helping to create a strong and fiscally responsible plan.”
