RMWB recycling carts being removed Sept 22 – Oct 2.

What to know about carts and changes to recycling collection this fall

(Fort McMurray, AB – September 14, 2026) – Changes to residential recycling collection are coming this fall. As the transition to Circular Materials, the new curbside recycling provider gets closer, there are questions about the new recycling carts, collection schedules, and what to do with existing RMWB carts.

Circular Materials will take over residential recycling collection on Oct. 5 as part of Alberta’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulation, which shifts the responsibility for managing and funding residential recycling from municipalities to the producers of recyclable packaging and paper materials.

Important: Your current RMWB recycling carts are being removed permanently. After Oct. 2, only the new Circular Materials carts will be used for recycling collection.

RMWB will collect existing recycling carts in late September

Put your existing RMWB recycling carts out on your regular collection day:

  • Sept. 22 to 25: Light blue recycling carts

  • Sept. 29 to Oct. 2: Dark blue recycling carts

Your existing RMWB recycling carts will both be collected. Please leave your carts out until they are picked up, as cart collection may continue into the evening or the following day.

If you miss the scheduled cart collection, you can bring your RMWB recycling carts to the public drop-off area at the landfill free of charge until Dec 31, 2026.

Circular Materials will deliver new recycling carts starting September 22

Your new Circular Materials recycling cart will be dropped off at the front of your residence starting September 22 before recycling collection begins in October.

How do the new recycling carts compare?

The new Circular Materials recycling carts are the same capacity as the 240-litre RMWB recycling carts. All accepted recycling materials can go together in one Circular Materials recycling cart. Visit their webpage for more information about the new recycling carts.

Check your new collection schedule

Check your new recycling collection schedule before service begins in October. Recycling will be collected weekly in Anzac, Draper, Gregoire Lake Estates, Fort McMurray and Saprae Creek Estates, and every two weeks in Conklin, Fort McKay and Janvier.

Circular Materials has posted collection days and recycling information on the Fort McMurray community page and the dedicated community webpages below:

Circular Materials is also expected to mail information directly to households and provide additional communication ahead of the transition. Learn more: circularmaterials.ca/ab
