RMWB releases 2025 TRC report, invites Indigenous artists to shape next edition
Communities invited to explore reconciliation progress and help shape the next chapter through Indigenous artwork
The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is reflecting on four years of progress, partnership, and learning through the release of the 2025 edition of A Collaborative Pathway Forward. The annual report provides an update on actions taken by the Municipality to advance reconciliation and support the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada's 94 Calls to Action.
Since its initial publication, A Collaborative Pathway Forward has served as a tool for accountability and transparency, helping residents, partners, and community members follow the Municipality's reconciliation journey. The 2025 edition captures the progress made during the 2021-2025 Council term.
"Reconciliation moves forward through the relationships we build and the actions we take every day. This report reflects the guidance and contributions of First Nations and Métis communities, Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and municipal staff. Their continued involvement is essential as we carry this work forward", said Dennis Fraser, Director of Indigenous and Rural Relations.
The report highlights efforts to strengthen relationships, create learning opportunities, work alongside community partners, and integrate reconciliation into the Municipality's day-to-day work and decision-making. It also recognizes that reconciliation is an ongoing process requiring continued commitment and partnership.
Indigenous artists invited to help shape the 2026 report
As the Municipality prepares for future reporting, Indigenous artists with a connection to the region are invited to help shape the visual identity of the next edition.
Submissions are being accepted for artwork to be featured in the 2026 Truth and Reconciliation Annual Report. Selected works may be incorporated into the report's design and used in related communications to promote and support the publication.
The theme for the 2026 artist call is: Truth and Reconciliation from a Wood Buffalo Perspective.
Emerging and established Indigenous artists who live in, are from, or have a strong connection to the Wood Buffalo region are encouraged to apply. Accepted mediums include photography, painting, drawing, digital illustration, printmaking, mixed media, beadwork, textile art, and other visual artworks suitable for print and digital publication.
Multiple submissions may be selected for inclusion in the 2026 report. Artists whose work is selected will receive an artist fee in accordance with national guidelines.
Submissions must be received by 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2026. Artists may submit up to four original works for consideration. Artwork created using generative artificial intelligence is not eligible.
