Rolling parking ban begins Monday under Extreme Weather Response

Check your street’s parking ban dates at rmwb.ca/wmz and move your vehicle before the ban begins

The RMWB is activating its Extreme Weather Response Plan and implementing a rolling parking ban across Winter Maintenance Zone streets beginning Monday, Oct. 26.

The parking ban will move through the WMZ program based on each street’s regular WMZ day. Because the schedule overlaps, more than one group of WMZ streets may be under the parking ban on the same date.

Residents must move vehicles before the first date listed for their regular WMZ day and keep them off the street on every applicable date.

Find your regular WMZ day

Residents should use the RMWB’s Find Your Zone tool at rmwb.ca/wmz to confirm their street’s regular WMZ day and subzone before checking the schedule below.

Check when the parking ban applies to your street

The left-hand column shows the date you cannot park. The right-hand column identifies affected streets by their regular WMZ day. Find your regular WMZ day in every row and keep your vehicle off the street on all matching dates this week.

Date you must not park on the street Regular WMZ streets under parking ban
Monday, Oct. 26 Monday and Tuesday WMZ streets, Subzones 1–4
Tuesday, Oct. 27 Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday WMZ streets, Subzones 1–4
Wednesday, Oct. 28 Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday WMZ streets, Subzones 1–4

For example, Monday WMZ streets are under the parking ban on Monday, Oct. 26 and Tuesday, Oct. 27. Tuesday WMZ streets are under the parking ban on Monday, Oct. 26, Tuesday, Oct. 27 and Wednesday, Oct. 28. Keep vehicles off the street on every date listed for your street’s regular WMZ day.

What residents need to do

  • Use the Find Your Zone tool to confirm their regular WMZ day and subzone.
  • Move vehicles off the street before the first applicable day.
  • Keep vehicles off the street on every date listed for their regular WMZ day.
  • Make alternate parking arrangements while the parking ban is in effect.
  • Continue to monitor RMWB communication channels for updates.

Residents should not wait until crews arrive on their street to move their vehicle. Vehicles must remain off the street on every date listed for their regular WMZ day, even if winter maintenance appears to be complete.

Crews will work through activated WMZ areas

Crews will work through activated streets and subzones as winter maintenance progresses. The schedule gives crews flexibility to remain in areas where additional time is needed or move to another available street or area when work is completed.

Electronic message boards will be updated with parking ban information.

Recycling collection may be affected

Recycling collection is not normally affected during regular WMZ operations. During an Extreme Weather Response, however, there may be impacts where recycling collection and winter maintenance occur on the same street.

Recycling collection by Circular Materials will continue. Residents should put recycling carts out on their regularly scheduled collection day.

Roads crews will work around recycling carts and collection activity. If a street is congested during collection, crews may move to another street and return when access improves. Crews may also temporarily move recycling carts where needed to complete winter maintenance.

Residents should remove recycling carts from the street after collection.

Priority route maintenance will continue

  • Priority One maintenance will continue 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Priority Two maintenance will continue according to its regular schedule.
  • WMZ streets will follow the rolling parking ban schedule.

Priority routes are separate from the WMZ parking ban schedule.

Bylaw Services will be part of the response

Bylaw Services will be part of the Extreme Weather Response.

Vehicles parked contrary to an activated parking restriction will be ticketed and may be towed to the nearest available lawful parking location.

The fine is $400, reduced to $240 if paid within seven days.

Residents who cannot locate a vehicle that has been moved can contact Pulse for assistance.
