Summer construction season is underway in the region

Now that the weather has warmed up, summer construction season is in full swing in the RMWB.  This year, the Municipality is continuing to advance several key projects including the completion of the Saunderson Pressure Reducing Station, Conklin Water Treatment Plant upgrades and the Fort McKay Community Centre.

Other planned projects will focus on upgrading existing infrastructure, expanding rural water and sewer services and creating safer roads for everyone.

Key Projects for 2025

Flood Mitigation: Completing permanent flood mitigation remains a top priority. In the 2025 construction season, work will be active in several key areas, including:

  • Continued construction on Reach 5, TaigaNova North, Reach 3 enhancements and miscellaneous underground enhancements.
  • The start of construction on Reach 6 and the raising of the Hardin Street intersection.
  • At the same time, design and planning continues for Reach 10-2 and TaigaNova South as well as the enhancements on Reaches, 1,2 ,4 and 9.

These efforts are part of the ongoing commitment to protect the region from future flooding events. For more information and updates, visit rmwb.ca/floodmitigation.

Anzac Lagoon Expansion: The 2025 phase of this project will see further expansion to the lagoon’s treatment and storage cells and contribute to increased capacity. This will support the rural water and sewer servicing program in addition to the communities of Gregoire Lake Estates, Anzac and Fort McMurray 468 First Nation and any future developments along the Highway 881 corridor.

Waterfront Park: Located on the east side of Hardin Street and the north side of Clearwater Drive, the Snye Point Park Project is part of the larger Waterfront Park Revitalization. The upgrades will improve road access and surfaces for events and introduce new amenities such as a celebration circle, welcome circle, seating areas, parking and pedestrian walkways. The goal is to create a more accessible and enjoyable recreational space for the community.
