Weigh in on portable sign regulations in the region

Public feedback on sign spacing, placement and more will help determine if current regulations need to be updated.

Planning and Development Services is currently reviewing rules for portable signs in the region, following a Council motion from earlier this year.

We are asking residents, business owners, and sign companies for their feedback. Public input may help inform updated sign regulations in the new Land Use Bylaw, which comes into effect on Jan. 1, 2026.

What are portable signs?

These specific signs are mounted on a frame, stand, or similar support. They can be easily relocated to another location and are typically used for short-term advertising.

What are the current rules for portable signs?

Some of the existing portable sign regulations include:

  • There must be a minimum of 30 metres of separation distance between portable signs.
  • The maximum time for a portable sign to stay on a lot is 180 consecutive days. It then must be removed from the property for 180 consecutive days.
