Wood Buffalo Lift Station Replacement 2026

Introduction: 

The Wood Buffalo lift station located on Woodward Lane is a vital component of Fort McMurray’s 
infrastructure that ensures effective removal of wastewater. This project is designed 
to provide a needed upgrade to the existing wastewater system to support existing residents as 
well as future residential and commercial development.

Community Benefit:

Upon completion, the upgraded wastewater lift station will provide more efficient and higher 
capacity transportation of wastewater for existing and future residents. 

Construction Impacts:

• The only immediate construction impact is the closure of the walkway to the east of Woodward 
  Lane.
• Construction is scheduled to begin in August and is anticipated to be completed by August 
  2028.  Typical construction activities will occur between 7:00 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.
• While occasional work outside these hours may be required to accommodate specific construction activities or unforeseen circumstances, all work will be conducted in accordance with applicable Regional 
  Municipality of Wood Buffalo noise bylaws and regulations. 
•  Mobilization will occur in phases so as not to disrupt local traffic. Once mobilized, the area inside the construction boundaries will be used to stage all equipment and materials. Site parking and site facilities are also to exist within the construction zone.
• The only detour will be for those using the bike path immediately to the east of Woodward 
  Lane. Bike and pedestrian traffic will be directed to the next nearest access to the trail system, 
  approximately 200m south of the construction site.

Notice to residents:

No outages, interruptions, road closures, traffic delays or detours are expected. Additional 
construction updates will be posted on a digital sign outside the construction site. Unauthorized entry to the construction area demarcated by temporary fencing is prohibited.
