Wood Buffalo RCMP to focus on property crime, drug trafficking, domestic violence and traffic safety
2025-26 Annual Performance Plan targets key community concerns for the year ahead.
The Wood Buffalo RCMP have announced their 2025–2026 Annual Policing Priorities, developed using input from residents, frontline officers, and regional crime data. These priorities will guide enforcement and prevention strategies over the next year.
The RCMP provides policing services to the region through a contract with the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, which works closely with the detachment to help shape local priorities and support community safety initiatives.
“Community safety is at the heart of everything we do,” said Chief Superintendent Mark Hancock, Officer in Charge of the Wood Buffalo RCMP. “These priorities reflect the concerns we’ve heard, alongside the trends we’re seeing through calls for service and local data. We will deliver proactive, visible policing that builds a safer community for everyone in Wood Buffalo.”
Annual plan highlights five key areas for action
This year’s policing priorities include:
- Property crime and theft: Focused crime reduction projects, expanded downtown foot and seasonal bike patrols, and community education sessions focused on prevention.
- Prolific/Habitual offender management: Targeted efforts to reduce repeat offences through priority offender initiatives.
- Violence in relationships: Community awareness campaigns designed to inform people about domestic violence and connect them to available support services.
- Organized crime- drug and human trafficking: Drug awareness and prevention education, trafficking investigations, and public campaigns to increase awareness of human trafficking and available resources.
- Traffic safety: Increased speed-related patrols, strategic traffic enforcement projects, and public education to promote safer driving and improve overall road safety.

New priorities reflect community input
From Feb. 3 to March 3, more than 1,900 engagement actions were recorded as residents provided feedback through online surveys, in-person events, and quick polls. The resulting insights were presented to Council and used to shape the Wood Buffalo RCMP’s Annual Performance Plan.
