Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) has lifted the Do Not Consume Water Advisory for infants, children up to 13 years of age and pregnant women in Fort McKay, confirming that tap water is safe for everyone. Comprehensive water testing confirms manganese levels are below the Health Canada limits.
Members of the Fort McKay First Nation, Fort McKay Métis Nation and all residents in Fort McKay using the municipal water system should run their taps for 10-15 minutes to clear the water lines in their home.
Is there a beautiful garden or floral display in your neighbourhood that brightens up your day every time you pass by? Recognize and thank these talented residents or businesses for beautifying the community through the Nominate your Neighbour program!
Whether it’s a colourful front yard, a deck filled with blooming flowerpots, or a thriving garden, let’s honour the creativity, hard work and maintenance that goes into keeping Wood Buffalo beautiful.
Nominating is easy, simply upload a photo of the home or business you want to recognize at rmwb.ca/NYN.
Apply to join the Mayor's Advisory Council on Youth (MACOY) if you are entering grade 9-12 this fall.
Last year, MACOY members went on a bus tour around Fort McMurray to learn about municipal
services and meet the people who support those services. This included going to the Material
Recovery Facility, the Regional Emergency Coordination Centre, Transit Station, and the Water
Treatment Plant. MACOY members also participated in mock Council meetings to learn more
about processes in municipal government and volunteered at various events, like igNIGHT and
Santa’s Village.
If you’re ready to give a voice to youth in the region, meet new people and build valuable skills for
your future, apply online by Aug. 10 at rmwb.ca/MACOY.

Municipal crews will be working on short-term control measures to prevent further erosion on a stretch of Aostra Road running along the Ruth Lake Reservoir.
The work may be completed as early as end-of-day on Sunday, June 14.
Long-term erosion control measures will be installed after water levels recede.

The Alberta Summer Games will take place from July 20–23, 2028, bringing together athletes, coaches, officials, families, and visitors from across the province.
Recruitment is now underway for the 2028 Alberta Summer Games Board positions. The Chairperson will be appointed in July, and remaining Board positions are expected to be filled by the end of August.
The Municipal Roads and Transportation bylaw does not allow the use of e-scooters in public spaces in the region. RCMP and Bylaw Officers prefer to begin with an education-first enforcement approach when they see illegal e-scooter use but are beginning to issue tickets and/or impounding e-scooters in response to increased illegal and unsafe use. The ticket for operating an e-scooter in a public space is $500.
Public spaces include sidewalks, trails, parks, and streets, and are shared by everyone. Increased education and enforcement on e-scooter bylaws are necessary to help keep these spaces safe, accessible, and enjoyable for all users.
