Heavy Item Pickup

The Heavy Item Pickup program is currently closed.

To help you dispose of large and heavy household items in a cost-effective way, the municipality offers the Heavy Item Pickup program each year.

This program helps you dispose of large household items that cannot be set out for regular curbside collection. You can register up to four large household items to have picked up at the curb. Once registered, you are given a pickup date.

Registration is limited and all registered items must be at the curbside by 8 a.m. on the assigned pickup day. This program is not available for commercial and construction related items. The program is free but additional fees will apply for select items.

The heavy item pick up program is now closed.

Note: The Heavy Item Pickup program is available in Fort McMurray, Draper, Saprae Creek, Anzac and Gregoire Lake Estates. The program is not available in Janvier, Conklin Fort McKay or Fort Chipewyan.

Removal is required as it is classified as a hazardous waste and needs to be contained so it does not contribute to the destruction of the ozone layer. Only a certified technician can remove the refrigerant gases. Any unit that has refrigerant gas removed prior to pick up needs a certificate from the specialist who removed the refrigerant.

The municipality will pick-up a number of registered heavy items at no charge. However, there will be additional fees for:

  • Mattresses - $30.80
  • Box springs - $30.80

  • Heavy items registered for collection must be put out to the curb by 8 a.m. on the assigned pickup day.
  • All heavy items must be placed by the FRONT curb, even if you normally receive back alley collection for garbage and recycling.
  • Please ensure items are easily accessible for pickup when they are placed at the curb. As always, your civic address number must be clearly visible from the roadside.
  • Due to demand and routes, it could take up to 48 hours for pickup. Crews cannot go onto private property or go back for items that have not been put out for collection by the deadline.
  • Any non-registered items will be left at the curb and are the responsibility of the property owner.
  • Doors on refrigerators and freezers must be removed prior to pickup to prevent children and small animals from being trapped. Item(s) must be clean with no food inside.
