Specialized Transit

Our Special Mobility Assistance Required Transportation (SMART Bus) service is available by appointment to:

  • seniors (65 years or older)
  • those with mobility issues that prevent or severely restrict their use of conventional bus service

All SMART buses are equipped with wheelchair lifts. Check out the SMART Bus Passenger Handbook.

How to book the SMART Bus

1. Register to ride

Fill out the registration package. Transit Services will review the application and notify the applicant when approved.

Please remember that conventional transit buses are wheelchair accessible. We encourage clients to use the conventional service where possible. SMART Bus will give priority to those who do not have access to conventional transit or are unable to use conventional transit services.

2. Book a ride

Call 780-743-7909 between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. All bookings should be made at least 24 hours in advance.

When you call to book a trip, please have the following information available.

  • Your name
  • Your daytime telephone numbers
  • The date and time you require a trip
  • Your pickup and destination locations (which can only be made 2 weeks in advance)
  • Tell us if you will be travelling with an attendant and/or a mobility aid

Bus drivers won't take passengers who haven't booked a trip with the scheduler. Bus drivers cannot accept bookings on the bus.

For same day cancellation or if your bus is later than 15 minutes, please contact Pulse at 1-800-973-9663.

Charters

Requests for service outside of regular hours are considered a charter booking. Charters require additional paperwork. Contact PULSE for details.

The SMART Bus can also be booked by registered clients for special events for $35/hour with a two-hour minimum. All locations served by the SMART Bus must be accessible.
