Bring outdoor skating to your neighbourhood: Build a community backyard rink this winter!

Winter is on the way and so is skating season! The Community Backyard Rink program gives residents the opportunity to create temporary outdoor rinks on municipal property, making it easier for families and neighbours to get outside and enjoy winter closer to home.

Ready to build a rink?

Start by reviewing the Community Backyard Rink guide at rmwb.ca/CommunityRinks. The guide includes information about applying, choosing a location and building and maintaining your rink.

Approved applicants are provided with insurance coverage under the Municipality’s insurance policy. Remember, approval is required before building a rink on municipal property. Unauthorized structures may be subject to fines and removal.

Apply online

Applications are open throughout the season, but residents are encouraged to have their rinks built by Dec. 31. Any approved outdoor rink (with boards) must be removed no later than April 1, 2027.

Apply through the Municipality’s E-Permitting portal and find everything you need to get started at rmwb.ca/CommunityRinks.
