Fort Chipewyan artists invited to design a public art bench
Bench will be featured at the new Lakefront Viewing Deck in community
Public Art Wood Buffalo invites local Fort Chipewyan artists to inspire a design for a bench to be located at the new Lakefront Viewing Deck. A duplicate bench will be installed in a park in Fort McMurray.
Who should apply?
This call is open to community members in Fort Chipewyan of varying artistic backgrounds including visual artists, designers, sculptors, fabricators, fine crafters and more. Interested applicants can contact Pulse before April 14, 2023 to book a meeting with program coordinator to learn more.
The deadline to submit an expression of interest is Thursday, May 18, 2023.
Compensation offered for designs and consultation
Public Art Wood Buffalo aligns with the Canadian Artists Representation (CARFAC) rates and will offer $600 for four hours of community consultation. Another $600 will be awarded to develop three designs for the community to select from.
Once a design is selected, the artist can either fabricate the bench or a municipal representative will work with the artist to fabricate it.
This project is supported through the Municipal Public Art Policy (PRL – 160) and funded through the percent for art program.
