Soil Disposal

The municipal landfill accepts soil for disposal under certain conditions. In accordance to the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act (EPEA) Operating Approval, the Landfill does not accept material containing the following:

  • Free liquids
  • Drilling muds
  • Explosives
  • Biomedical/biological/pathological waste
  • Radioactive waste
  • Oilfield waste
  • Pesticides
  • Bentonite and bentonite-contaminated products
  • Asbestos
  • Industrial abrasives
  • Ozone depleting substances
  • Hazardous waste
  • Mold
  • Hot ashes
  • Sulphur and sulphur-contaminated products
  • Automobiles

Disposal is at the discretion of the landfill operating staff.

All soils will be classified as contaminated unless proven otherwise. Soils samples must be taken by a professional and submitted to a third-party lab for a Class II Landfill Analysis, Leachable BTEX and any known contaminants. Complete analysis must accompany the soil disposal application. Soils that are deemed acceptable (clean) soil will be free of charge. Soils with lab results within the acceptance criteria for the landfill will be subjected to a fee.
