Rural Waste Collection

Waste collection details for the rural communities in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo.

The Municipality performs curbside garbage and recycling collection in Anzac.

Collection details:

  • Find your curbside collection day using the collection calendar
  • Bins must be placed at the curb by 7:30 a.m. on collection day.
  • Each bin should not exceed a total weight of more than 36 kg or 80 lbs.

A private contractor performs curbside garbage collection in Conklin.

Collection details:

  • Curbside collection takes place each Wednesday.
  • Bags must be placed at the curb by 7:30 a.m. on collection day.
  • There is a limit of four bags (must not exceed 20 kg or 45 lbs.)
  • There is no curbside recycling program at this time.

Residents of Conklin and Janvier can dispose of waste and recycling at a transfer station. The transfer station is operated by a private contractor.

  • Curbside collection takes place each Wednesday.

  • There is no curbside recycling program at this time.

The Fort Chipewyan Landfill is operated by the Municipality.

Landfill details:

  • Hours are Monday – Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Public drop-off hours are:
    • Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
    • Saturday – Sunday 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

• There are no fees for disposing of waste and recycling at the landfill.

  • Curbside collection takes place each Friday.
  • Bags must be placed at the curb by 7:30 a.m. on collection day
  • There is a limit of four bags (must not exceed 20 kg or 45 lbs.)
  • There is no curbside recycling program at this time.

The Municipality operates transfer stations in Conklin and Janvier. 

Conklin

Seasonal Hours (April 1, 2024 – October 31, 2024)
Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Sunday
9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Janvier

Seasonal Hours (April 1, 2024 – October 31, 2024)
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday
9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

  • Household waste

  • Electronic waste
  • Tires (not larger than 24 inch)
  • Treated and untreated wood
  • Furniture, refrigerators, stoves, dish washers, microwaves, washer, dryers
  • Scrap metal
  • Paint, solvents and pesticide containers
  • Propane tanks (30 lb. or less)
  • Household hazardous waste
  • Anti-freeze, used oil, used oil filters
  • Car batteries and lithium batteries 

  • Any and all commercial or industrial waste
  • Contaminated soil
  • Hazardous waste
  • Whole vehicles or their parts (boats, motorcycles, cars, trucks, trailers, etc.)
  • Waste generated from camp sites
  • Hot ashes
  • Flammables
