This is the final Winter Maintenance Zone weekly update as the regular Subzone schedule is now complete. Crews will continue to clear back-alleys and catch basins to support the spring thaw and closely monitor street and weather conditions. Should additional winter maintenance be needed, temporary no-parking signs will be used. 

The Rural Water and Sewer Servicing (RWSS) program helps bring piped water and sewer services to southern rural communities, replacing trucked water delivery and septic hauling.

At its April 14 meeting, RMWB Council approved the transfer of seven residential lots to the Conklin Resource Development Advisory Committee (CRDAC) for a nominal fee of $1. This decision supports an ongoing partnership to help address housing needs in the community.

At the April 14 Council meeting, the Abasand Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) pilot project was made a permanent bylaw. OHV use on Municipal roads in Abasand will continue to be permitted when traveling between home and the staging area or gas station.

The regular Winter Maintenance Subzone schedule is now done for the season, but winter maintenance will continue with the use of temporary no parking signs.

We’ve experienced a lot of winter-like weather this spring, but river breakup season is coming. As temperatures warm, ice on the Athabasca and Clearwater rivers will eventually melt and break apart.

At the March 24 Council meeting, the municipal Housing Needs Assessment (HNA) was accepted as information.

Council directed Wood Buffalo Housing and Development Corporation (WBHD) and RMWB administration to collaborate on a plan to achieve a housing strategy, including who will complete future housing needs assessments, timelines and report back to Council by June 2026.

The Municipality is looking for nominations of local First Nation and Métis athletes, community builders and local legends to be part of the 2026 Indigenous Sports Gallery as it travels around the region for public display. 

The gallery is intended to inspire youth and celebrate the story of Indigenous athletes and their ongoing contributions to sport in the region. Nominations are open from April 7 to May 4.

Subzones 1 and 2 are active from April 6 to April 10 for snow removal with on-street parking restrictions in effect.
