Alberta Health Services (AHS) has lifted the Boil Water Advisory for the hamlet of Fort Chipewyan, confirming that tap water is safe to drink and meets Canadian Drinking Water Quality Guidelines.

Introduction/Area Impacted:

The Anzac Recreation Centre Culvert, Asphalt, and Curb Replacement project will have a winter shutdown and resume operations in 2026. The Main access road and a section of the parking lot will be open to the public. Concrete barricades will be placed along the “Do not Enter” areas for pedestrian safety.

During construction, residents and visitors should expect temporary disruptions, including partial closures of the parking lot, full closure of the main access road, detours, noise, dust, and construction vehicle traffic in the area. Access to certain sections of the Recreation Centre parking lot may be limited at times to allow crews to work safely and efficiently. We ask all users to follow posted signage, use designated alternative routes when required and allow extra time when visiting the facility. Every effort will be made to minimize inconvenience and maintain safe access throughout the project.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) is marking the end of the 2025 summer construction season, with major infrastructure and community improvement projects advancing across the region.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) has received $260,000 in funding from the Government of Alberta through the Municipal Climate Change Action Centre’s (MCCAC) Community Energy Conservation Program (CEC Program).

The funding will support a retrofit lighting project at Vista Ridge All Seasons Park to improve energy efficiency and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The RMWB joined several municipalities from across Canada, Ireland, Italy, and Slovenia on stage at the 2025 Communities in Bloom (CiB) National and International Awards Ceremonies on Oct. 18, 2025. The RMWB won three awards: Community Appearance Award, landscape Award, and the Best Downtown Area Award.

Following Council approval at the March 25 meeting, the new Land Use Bylaw (No. 26/001) comes into effect Jan. 1, 2026.

Developed with extensive public engagement over multiple years, the new Land Use Bylaw (LUB) will provide residents, businesses and developers with a user-friendly document that addresses current community needs and supports economic growth and responsible development.

A Boil Water Advisory has been issued for people who use the municipal water treatment plant in Fort Chipewyan. The Boil Water Advisory is not in place for Allison Bay or residents in Dog Head that get water from the Mikisew Cree First Nation water treatment plant.

The Boil Water Advisory requires everyone who uses the municipal drinking water system in Fort Chipewyan to bring tap water to a rolling boil for at least one minute before consumption, including:

• drinking
• brushing teeth
• cleaning raw foods
• preparing infant formula or juices
• providing water to pets
• making ice

The results of the 2025 Municipal Election are now official as of 12 p.m. (noon) MT. 

There are no changes to the unofficial results released by the Municipality on Election Day, October 20. Find the official results for the Mayor, Councillors and the Fort McMurray Catholic and Public School District Boards of Trustees at rmwb.ca/election.

A total of 10,506 voters participated in this year’s election, which is approximately 25.3 per cent of an estimated 41,494 eligible voters. Of those voters, 3,516 cast ballots during the advance vote, compared to 5,259 in 2021. 

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo invites community members to attend the Swearing-in Ceremony and Organizational Meeting of the 2025-2029 Council elect on Wednesday, October 29 starting at 6 p.m.
