In accordance with section 70 of the Environmental Protection and Enhancement Act,
Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has been issued with an amendment approval by
Environment and Protected Areas for the Anzac Wastewater System under EPEA
Approval No. 322842-00-00. This amendment approval is to extend the expiry date of
the EPEA Approval No. 3228420-00-00 for a year. The Anzac wastewater system is in
the process of decommissioning and reclamation. The Anzac wastewater treatment
plant is located at SE ¼ of 04-086-07W4M.

The Street Banner Program offers residents 12 years and older to submit their artwork that goes with the theme: Everyday Heroes, Local Legends.

Provincial funding supports improvements at two local arenas

Starting April 1, several user rates for Municipal services will be updated. The changes were approved by Council last fall.

Subzones 3 and 4 are active from March 30 to April 3 for snow removal, with on-street parking restrictions in effect.  

A report of an odour of smoke led to the evacuation of a downtown apartment/commercial complex on Thursday evening, March 27.

A wood stove in a shed is the suspected cause of a fire that gutted a Gregoire mobile home and destroyed several outbuildings yesterday afternoon.

The Homelessness Initiatives Strategic Committee (HISC) approved funds totaling $3,106,402 for local non-profit organizations under the 2026-2027 homelessness program. 

Funding is provided by the Government of Canada through Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB). Funding is distributed through the RMWB to support homelessness initiatives in the region.

The Homelessness Initiatives Strategic Committee (HISC) is a Council Appointed Committee that allocates funding and advocates for enhanced funding and policy changes to support local homelessness serving agencies. HISC also leads strategic planning, oversees funding priorities, and identifies best practices to strengthen the community’s homelessness response.

A Public Hearing is scheduled for April 28, 2026, regarding a site-specific Land Use Amendment that proposes to add “Resort Facility” and “Retail, General” as Discretionary Uses to the UE – Urban Expansion District. 

Cold weather and a late spring means the Fort Chipewyan Winter Road remains open at its maximum weight limit of 45,000 kg.  

All weight limit reductions will be declared in advance as spring approaches and temperatures rise. As in past years, daytime load limits will be announced as the weather warms.
