Mayor Sandy Bowman has issued the following statement on the passing of Councillor Jane Stroud:. “It is with very heavy hearts and profound sadness that we mourn the sudden and unexpected passing of Councillor Jane Stroud.

Crews will start the annual Snye dredging on Monday, August 12. Construction fencing will be installed around the site and Snye Point will be temporarily closed.

Residents encouraged to be wildfire safe and keep informed this summer. The municipality has lifted the Fire Ban for the urban service area of Fort McMurray.

. (Fort McMurray, AB – July 29, 2024) – Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo residents know first-hand what it’s like to experience the lasting impacts of wildfire.

The Evacuation Alert for the hamlet of Janvier has been lifted. Alberta Wildfire has made significant progress on containing Wildfire LWF-136 (part of the Kettle River Complex) and the much-improved weather conditions will further support those operations.

Alberta Transportation has reopened Highway 881 in both directions. .

Alberta Transportation. has closed Highway 881 from kilometre 213 to kilometre 241 (north of Janvier) due to nearby wildfire LWF-136 and other wildfires in the area.

Janvier residents should be ready to leave on short notice. An Evacuation Alert has been issued for the hamlet of Janvier, due to nearby wildfires, LWF-136 and LWF 142.
