The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has officially completed its 2025 Municipal Census, closing the count as of June 30. Over the past three months, thousands of residents and households took part either online, by phone or through in-person visits by enumerators.
The Municipality has lifted the fire ban for the urban service area of Fort McMurray and the Province has also lifted the fire ban for the surrounding forest area.
Although wildfire conditions have improved, residents are encouraged to be diligent and responsible while enjoying trails, campfires and backyard firepits.
The Evacuation Alert for Conklin has been lifted.
Construction projects along the waterfront will support future flood mitigation efforts and help enhance Snye Point Park. As part of the Waterfront Park Revitalization Project, Snye Point Park—located on the east side of Hardin Street—will be closed from June 9 to Nov. 15, 2025, for the first phase of construction. Phase two will start in 2026.
A shed and contents was destroyed and several neighbouring sheds and a fence were damaged in an early morning backyard fire on Caldwell Crescent in Thickwood on June 3.

Fort McMurray firefighters were dispatched to Cree Road shortly before midnight, May 27 after a 911 caller reported the back side of a mobile home on fire.
The FireSmart Home Rebate Program provides grants to eligible homeowners who have received a FireSmart home assessment and have completed the recommended work. Supported by the Municipality and the Canadian Red Cross, the program is available for all communities in the region.

Mayor and Councillors are inviting Elders and community members 65 years of age or older to join them for good food and great company on June 6 at the CNOOC Fieldhouse at MacDonald Island. The luncheon will celebrate the contributions that seniors and Elders make to Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.
