Mayor Sandy Bowman shared the following remarks at the ᒣᐢᑲᓇᐊᐧ ᑯᑎᑯᑕᑳᐧᐤ Intersections exhibit opening, held last night at Jubilee Centre in Fort McMurray:. “Tonight, I want to make a statement about inclusion, diversity, equity and rights in the region and our support for the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
Additional $2. 6 million will cover increase in eligible applications. Council approved the most recent round of applications for the Downtown Revitalization Incentives Program.
Council of the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo has approved the Community Investment Program Policy FIN-220. The updated policy will continue to provide financial support to community groups and organizations, while increasing efficiencies, eliminating duplication of services and ensuring grant approvals reflect strategic priorities set by Council.
The exhibit will be featured in Jubilee Centre Lobby until Aug. 31.
Shovels were in the ground on July 5 to mark the start of construction for the new Fort McKay Community Centre. The Centre is located on Range Road 1109, behind the firehall that officially opened in June, 2022.

Over the past four weeks, an incredible amount of work was done to protect Fort Chipewyan and support approximately 1000 community members who left and have now returned home. On behalf of Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, Fort Chipewyan Métis Nation and the Municipality, we extend our deepest gratitude to everyone who supported the joint response to wildfire MWF025, also known as the Rocky River Fire.
Indigenous culture, traditions and teachings will be highlighted throughout June as we celebrate National Indigenous History Month (NIHM). The month-long series of events will reflect the stories, achievements and diversity of Indigenous Peoples across Wood Buffalo.
