A disaster response team that deployed to Fort McMurray after the Horse River Wildfire, is back almost eight years later to help reduce the wildfire risk to the area. A fast-moving grass fire that caused the temporary closure of Highway 63 on April 25 was caused by an illegal campfire, fire investigators have confirmed. Fort McMurray fire crews responded on Friday after receiving reports of a large plume of smoke in the Quarry Ridge gulley shortly before 3 p. m.
Follow temporary parking restrictions to support efficient street cleaning. Starting April 28, temporary parking restrictions will be in place in residential areas scheduled for street sweeping, as crews continue the street sweeping program.
RMWB Council approved the 2025 Property Tax Rate Bylaw at their April 22 meeting. While Council did not raise any municipal property tax rates this year, the Province has decided there will be an education tax rate hike of 21% for residential properties in Wood Buffalo, and 15% for non-residential properties.
