(Fort McMurray, AB – April 24, 2024) – Regional Emergency Services (RES) responded to a wildfire around 10:30 p. m. last night (April 23) near the Elsie Yanik and Dave McNeilly schools in Parsons Creek.
Fire crews rescue resident trapped in basement; two taken to hospital. Regional Emergency Services responded to an early morning fire today that seriously damaged a four-unit townhouse complex in Timberlea and sent two residents to hospital.
Regional Emergency Services (RES) will begin controlled burns this week as part of the Municipality’s wildfire mitigation strategy. Controlled burns are led by trained staff from RES and only happen when conditions are safe to do so.
The Municipality is looking for nominations of local Indigenous athletes, community builders and local legends to be part of the travelling Indigenous Sports Gallery. The gallery is intended to recognize and honour the sporting achievements and ongoing contributions of members of local First Nation or Métis communities.
Alberta Health Services (AHS) and the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo have signed a new five-year agreement to continue delivering emergency medical services (EMS) in the region. This contract ensures full cost recovery for the RMWB, as well as the continuity of a critical service for the community.
UPDATE May 29, 2024: all load limits have been lifted for the season. Beginning March 25, the load limits on municipal gravel roads are being lowered to 75 per cent of the Gross Vehicle Weight (GVW).

Arts, Culture and Heritage Grant applications are now open for 2024. The Arts, Culture and Heritage Grant provides up to $5,000 for projects that create, inspire and preserve within the cultural landscape of Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.
Updates to routes 7, 8, 12, 61, 91 and 92 take effect March 8. Starting Friday, March 8, additional evening service is being added on several key routes across Fort McMurray.
