The Santa Claus Parade and Council’s Starry Night will not proceed today, Saturday, Dec 6. Both events have been postponed due to the extreme cold. Current temperatures pose safety risks for attendees, float participants, volunteers, and event staff.
The Municipality will reassess conditions on Sunday, Dec 7, and make a decision at that time about whether the events can proceed. If they do proceed, they will take place at the same scheduled time on Sunday, Dec 7.
The Santa Claus Parade comes to town on Dec. 6! Gather your family and friends for the festivities beginning at 5 p.m. in kiyam Community Park for Council's Starry Night and then the parade begins at 6 p.m. on Main St., heading south on Franklin Ave.

Municipal contractors are building the Fort Chipewyan Winter Road, despite delays caused by warm weather.
Construction work will continue in December, with a target opening date before Dec. 25. As always, the opening of the winter road is dependent on weather and the progress crews make in ensuring the road is safe for vehicles.
At the Nov. 25 meeting, Council approved Administration’s recommendations to adjust several user rates for Municipal services. The updated rates will take effect April 1, 2026.
While there are no changes to most rates, increases have been made for some municipal services. Certain fees have also been decreased or removed.
A community tradition marks a milestone this year as the Stuff-A-Bus toy drive celebrates its tenth anniversary. RMWB Transit is again partnering with Santas Anonymous, a student-led program at Father Mercredi High School to gather toys and donations for local children and families.

Transit riders can expect improvements to transit services in Fort McMurray at the end of November. These changes are based on ridership data and reflect feedback received from riders, operators and the public since the launch of the new Transit system in August.
Planning and Development Services is currently reviewing rules for portable signs in the region, following a Council motion from earlier this year.
A new exhibition, Art for Social Change, is coming to Keyano College from Dec. 3 to 10, showcasing seven multidisciplinary artists whose installations explore the theme of accessibility. These artworks will be displayed within the hallways of Keyano Theatre and the Clearwater Campus from December 3, International Day for Persons with Disabilities, until December 10, International Human Rights Day.
he Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) is seeking voter input to build on lessons learned from this year’s municipal election. Feedback gathered from the Municipal Voter Experience survey will help enhance how future elections are planned and delivered.
