New Commercial, Industrial or Institutional Buildings
All new buildings and additions to existing buildings require planning approval through a development permit, and a building safety approval through a building permit. Other trade permits such as electrical, plumbing, and gas may be required.
Before you apply
A pre-application meeting with Development Planning staff is required for commercial, industrial, and institutional developments. Before the meeting, gather the documents and information listed in the Pre-Application Meeting Requirement Checklist.

Apply
Applications can be submitted online anytime through E-Permitting or on paper using Forms and Checklists.
To ensure a smooth application process, use the appropriate checklist to confirm all requirements. Checklist items are minimum requirements, and additional information may be requested after staff review your application.
Ensure all required forms, drawings, and supporting materials are included with your application to avoid delays:

- Cannabis Retail Store Development Permit Checklist

After you apply
If you applied through E-Permitting, you may follow the status of your application through the portal.
