Effective Jan. 29 at noon, the load limit for the Fort Chipewyan Winter Road is increasing to 45,000 kg.
After a decade shaped by challenges and resilience, the region is growing again for the first time in 10 years. Census 2025 reported a total population of 107,740, a 1.6 per cent increase from 2021.
Crews are continuing snow removal operations and getting closer to completing all streets in Fort McMurray.
Subzones 1 and 2 will be active from Jan.26-30 for snow removal operations, with on-street parking restrictions in effect 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Subzones 3 and 4 will be active Feb. 2-6.
Following parking restrictions helps speed up winter maintenance. When a subzone is active, all vehicles must be off the street on your scheduled maintenance day from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Do not park back on the street before 6 p.m., even if work appears complete, as crews may need to return.
