The La Loche Winter Trail is opening to light vehicles less than 5,000 kg at noon today.
Load limits will be increased as soon as it is safe to do so, and all changes will be formally announced. Vehicles heavier than the posted load limit using the winter road will be subject to serious fines and penalties.
A single storey house in the downtown area was seriously damaged by fire on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 4.
Subzones 3 and 4 will be active from Jan. 5-9 for snow removal operations with on-street parking restrictions in effect. Subzones 1 and 2 are expected to activate Jan. 12-16.
Starting today Friday, Jan. 2 at noon, the vehicle load limit for the Fort Chipewyan Winter Road is increasing to 15,000 kg. Vehicles heavier than 15,000 kg must stay off the winter road until load limits are increased. Heavier vehicles could damage the road, causing serious safety hazards and delays in reaching higher load limits.

While Santa is visiting the region, there will be temporary closures and adjustments to municipal services. As the holiday season approaches, people can expect adjusted schedules and temporary changes to some municipal services.
On Dec. 13, the Community Investment Program Approval Committee (CIPAC) approved and allocated grants totaling almost $7.5 million for local non-profit organizations, individual athletes or groups.
Every year, the Community Investment Program provides grant funding to help non-profit organizations deliver community programs, projects and events. The program also supports individual athletes or groups in amateur sport development, competing at a provincial, national or international level. Grant applications can be submitted in the fall for the upcoming year.
