Alberta Transportation has reopened Highway 881 in both directions. .

Alberta Transportation. has closed Highway 881 from kilometre 213 to kilometre 241 (north of Janvier) due to nearby wildfire LWF-136 and other wildfires in the area.
Janvier residents should be ready to leave on short notice. An Evacuation Alert has been issued for the hamlet of Janvier, due to nearby wildfires, LWF-136 and LWF 142.

At last night’s special Council meeting, the motion to make all RMWB Councillors full-time was reconsidered and defeated. This means that all RMWB Councillors will go back to being part-time and there will be no changes to Councillors’ duties or compensation.
As the Fort McMurray Fire Department celebrates this noteworthy anniversary, it is my honour to offer a few words to acknowledge the dedicated and brave people who built and shaped the department’s history. 1974 was a foundational year for the FMFD with the positions of Fire Chief (Roy Hawkins) and Deputy Fire Chief (Archie Goodwin) elevated to full-time and with the hiring of Joe Gautier, the first full-time paid firefighter that July.
