The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will be replacing the playground at Syncrude Athletic Park, in Timberlea during the summer of 2026.
The project includes removing components of the existing playground, installing new and additional playground equipment and surfacing, improving drainage, and restoring the playground area after construction.
After a recent garage fire in Timberlea, the municipal Fire Marshal is strongly reminding residents to dispose of smoking material safely.
A Public Hearing is expected to be scheduled for July 14, 2026, regarding redesignating a portion of land described as Lot 26, Block 3, Plan 982 5392 (the “Subject Property”), known as 125 McDermont Avenue, located in Fort Chipewyan, from PS-Public Service District to HC – Hamlet Commercial District and to include a site-specific LUB amendment to add the use of “Commercial Guest Accommodation” as a discretionary use in the HC – Hamlet Commercial District.

No injuries were reported from a fire that destroyed a Gregoire Lakes Estate home on Friday afternoon, June 12.
Local First Nation and Métis youth athletes, community builders and local legends were honoured at the Indigenous Sports Gallery ceremony Thursday night.
