Changes to residential recycling collection are coming this fall. As the transition to Circular Materials, the new curbside recycling provider gets closer, there are questions about the new recycling carts, collection schedules, and what to do with existing RMWB carts.
Circular Materials will take over residential recycling collection on Oct. 5 as part of Alberta’s Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) regulation, which shifts the responsibility for managing and funding residential recycling from municipalities to the producers of recyclable packaging and paper materials.

Updated – A Public Hearing is set for Tuesday, September 29th, 2026, regarding a proposed amendment to Land Use Bylaw No. 26/001 to redesignate a portion of the lands legally described as NW-2-89-9-4, municipally addressed as 166 Draper Road, from EP – Environmental Preservation District to EP2 – Environmental Preservation 2 District.
Building on the permanent Off-Highway Vehicle (OHV) Pilot Project Bylaw in Abasand, the RMWB is exploring whether designated OHV routes could improve safety and reduce illegal activity in additional Fort McMurray neighbourhoods. Areas being considered include a portion of Timberlea, Parsons Creek North, Waterways and Wood Buffalo, with access in Wood Buffalo limited to the winter season.
